Dear parent/guardian,

We continue to move along towards the Christmas break.   Our final day is Fri Dec 23.  The highlight of that day is the annual Grad Christmas Show.  Let's see how the class of 2017 does!!  Tickets will be on sale this coming week, only $3.  All students, friends and family are invited to attend one of the two performances held on Friday morning.
A reminder to continue to encourage your daughter/son to support our Advent charitable giving campaigns.  Students have the chance to support the Mitten Tree by bringing in new or gently used winter clothing (up to Thurs Dec 22).  Final donations for the Food Hampers for needy families are to be in to homerooms by Monday.
Thanks to Student Council who organized another successful Pancake Breakfast.  We will be donating just over $1000 to Toy Mountain.  A special thanks to the Ruiter family who are responsible for donating chocolate milk to the over 200 pancake eaters!!  Their support is appreciated.
Congrats to our Arts Department for another successful Arts Showcase this past Tuesday.  There was an awesome display of visual art, photography and great performances by all of our bands.  Nice to show all the artistic talent being fostered in the school.
If you are looking for a good charity to donate to consider the Host Program.  This organization, which was set up by a local businessman Richard Lussier, provides financial support to deserving students who are contributors to their school community.  St. Pius X has been involved for the past three years and currently HOST supports two of our students.  It is a great, non-bureaucratic program.  Take a look at their website.
Speaking of charities, the Ottawa Catholic School Board has wrapped up its United Way campaign.  This is primarily a staff charity project and this year board staff donated $517,784.37 to the United Way.  Over 80% of board employees made a contribution.  Well done Ottawa Catholic teachers!
Please note that the exam schedule has been posted on our website.  Exam days are Tues Jan 24 to Fri Jan 27.  The inclement weather day is Tues Jan 31.   Please do not plan for your son or daughter to be away on these days.
A reminder that if you received an Immunization notice from Ottawa Public Health you are encouraged to follow up on it and get your son or daughter's immunizations or their paperwork up-to-date.  Please contact them at 613-5580-6744 or immunization@ottawa.ca if you have any questions.  Please don't wait until suspension notices are sent out.  Thanks!
Parents of students in Grade 12 a reminder that applications to Ontario universities are due Jan 11 and to Ontario colleges by Feb 1.  Students or parents with any questions should contact their guidance counsellor before Dec 23.
Students taking Grade 9 Math this semester will be writing an EQAO test on Wed Jan 18 and Thurs Jan 19.  It is important that they are at school on these days to write the test which does count as part of their final grade in the course.   Contact your son or daughter's Math teacher if you have any questions.
Finally congrats to Mme. Humphries' Gr. 10 French class, whose video, "La meilleure classe de francais en Ontario" was chosen as one of the top 5 videos in the province in a contest sponsored by the University of Ottawa.  As a result of this award each student in the class would receive $1000 towards their tuition at the U of O if they choose to go there after graduation!  Congrats to the class and to Mme. Humphries for her leadership.
Have a good weekend!
