We begin our Christmas holiday at the end of the day today. Thanks to our Student Council for a fun filled spirit week. There was a lot of Christmas cheer throughout the week. We brought back a nice tradition this week with a staff vs student hockey game. This took place on Wednesday after school, with the staff team hanging on for a 10 - 9 victory. Great fun was had by all.
The Grad class of 2017 did an excellent job in today's Christmas show; lots of good talent and great SPX spirit. Thanks to all parents, family, grads and friends who came out to see the show. All proceeds help to reduce the cost of this year's prom. Your support is appreciated. Special thanks to show producers Ms. Blanchard and DeSouza. They did a great job of pulling the students together. A real highlight was this year's version of the "12 days of Christmas" where students poked fun at many of our staff, doing their best impressions of some of their teachers. Awesome job!!
Thanks to all who contributed to our Advent charitable giving campaigns. We gave over $1000 dollars to Toy Mountain, provided food hampers for 38 families and donated four large boxes of clothing to the Shepherds of Good Hope.
I would like to do a shout out for this year's drama production, "A Play About a Dragon". Under the leadership of Ms. Caroleo the group of actors, stage crew and production team gave us some high quality entertainment. I saw the Wed evening show, the first, and really enjoyed it, especially when the dragon made its appearance. I heard that the show got even better each night. Thanks to all the students and staff involved and also to parents who supported their sons and daughters in their commitment to putting together a show like this. It takes a lot of hours of hard work. Congratulations to all involved.
We return to classes on Monday January 9 and there are only 11 class days until the exam period. Our focus during this time is getting course work completed and preparing for exams in the classes that have them. Please encourage your daughter/son to give their best during this time.
Students taking Grade 9 Math this semester will be writing an EQAO test on Wed Jan 18 and Thurs Jan 19. It is important that they are at school on these days to write the test which does count as part of their final grade in the course. Contact your son or daughter's Math teacher if you have any questions.
Please note that the exam schedule has been posted on our website. Exam days are Tues Jan 24 to Fri Jan 27. The inclement weather day is Tues Jan 31. Please do not plan for your son or daughter to be away on these days.
A reminder that if you received an Immunization notice from Ottawa Public Health you are encouraged to follow up on it and get your son or daughter's immunizations or their paperwork up-to-date. Please contact them at 613-5580-6744 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions. Please don't wait until suspension notices are sent out. Thanks!
Parents of students in Grade 12 a reminder that applications to Ontario universities are due Jan 11 and to Ontario colleges by Feb 1. Students or parents with any questions should contact their guidance counsellor. As well information is now available about government assistance to support post-secondary education, this is known as OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance Program). Check out their website for information. The government has put aside more money to help support students attending college or university.
May all the blessings of the Christmas season be upon you and your family. Have a great holiday!
