"Dear parent/guardian,

As we come to the end of exams attention shifts to some end of year information and our graduation ceremony.

This past Tuesday we had our final School Council meeting.  Thanks to the regular crew who came out faithfully each month.  They were a great group to work with, led by chair Rose Mason, and I will miss my monthly meetings with them in my retirement!  The council was pleased to have our new principal, Mrs. Alex Belloni join us.  Mrs. Belloni currently is principal at Sacred Heart H.S.  She is really looking forward to joining the SPX community!

For those considering summer school you should be registered now, if not see a guidance counsellor on Monday or Tuesday.  There is no more registration at school after Tuesday.  The last day for registration is Wed June 28 at St. Nicholas Adult High School.  Summer school starts on Wed July 5.

Final report cards will be available for pickup starting Monday July 10.  Check the website for time and location.

Grads are reminded that they must come in to pick up their gown on Monday June 26, between 11:00 and 2:00, in Room A106.  Another person can pick up the gown for a student but they will be asked to sign for it.

The grad ceremony takes place at 12:00 at Centrepointe Theatre.  Grads are to be there by 11:15 am at the latest!!  Entry into the theatre for parents and guests will begin shortly after 11:30.  Please have your tickets with you.

Another reminder for parents of grads, please encourage your son/daughter to enjoy the events that are planned to celebrate their graduation and refrain from getting involved in anything that may bring them into conflict with the school, for example, grad pranks.  Last year two students were not able to participate in the graduation ceremony due to their involvement in a prank that went out of control.  Encourage them to enjoy their friends and teachers but don't go too far!  The next school organized event for the grads is the graduation ceremony on Wed June 28 at 12:00 at Centrepointe Theatre.

Ongoing reminders:

Next year our school will be participating in the board's annual overseas enrichment trip which will be going to Germany, Italy and Switzerland.  Please go to for more information, enter Tour ID: Hall-5611.  If you register before June 30 you can get a $250 travel grant from Explorica.

Ottawa Public Health's campaign called, "Secure your meds", continues.  The goal of the campaign is to ensure that children and youth do not have access to prescription medication that is used by others.  Parents are encouraged to make sure that meds are locked up and that parents monitor their meds to ensure that they are not going missing.  You can check out: for more information about this campaign which is part of an overall campaign to raise awareness about opioid use and fake prescription drugs.

In the coming weeks you will notice construction starting at the intersection of Fisher and Dynes.  The intersection is being rebuilt and sewers are being replaced along Dynes.  This will cause disruption to traffic.  We are working with the city and the contractor to ensure that students are safe.  As information becomes available I will share it with you.

Have a good weekend!
