Dear parent/guardian,

A reminder that we have Parent-Teacher interviews on Wed Oct 19. The on-line booking system opened on Thurs Oct 13 at 8:00 pm.  Interviews take place on Wed Oct 19 from 2:30 - 5:00 and from 6:00 - 8:00.   Last week we mailed home Letters of Concern for students whom teachers feel are not achieving what they can in the class at this stage in the school year.  Hopefully this early intervention can encourage your daughter/son to renew their commitment to doing the best they can.

Please note that students will be dismissed from school at 1:20 on Wed Oct 19 to give time for set up for our interviews.

Our Social Justice club will be running a silent auction during Parent-Teacher interviews.  You can bid on hotel stays, restaurant gift certificates and gift baskets.  All proceeds are donated to charities the school is connected with including our partner school in El Salvador.

This week we had our first eucharistic liturgies of the school year.  Fr. Tim Devine, pastor at St. Maurice led these liturgies.  Fr. Tim always gives a positive message to the students in his words to them.  He spoke powerfully to our Gr. 9 and 10 students about dealing with being blind from birth and how to be resilient in the face of the adversities that life throws at us. Our next school liturgy will focus on Advent.  Our Chaplain Richie is also working on planning our Remembrance Day services.

A reminder that our after-school homework help club, StepUp,  will begin on Oct 26 and run most Wednesdays and Thursdays through the school year.  All students are welcome.  There are staff members and senior students available in the library to work with students, helping them get homework done or having a chance to review material that they are struggling with.

Our Academic Awards ceremony will be held at 8:45 on Tues Oct 18 in the cafetorium.  This is a chance to acknowledge students who were top achievers in their courses last year.  Parents of students receiving awards have received invites.

A heads up for parents of students in Gr. 11 and 12 that Pius will be hosting a University Information Night on Wed Oct 26 from 6:30 to 8:30.  There will be reps from 21 Ontario universities here to talk about their schools.  All are welcome.  More detail will be on the website shortly.

The school board's parent group, CSPA, offers the first of many parent info sessions on Nov 3 at 7:00 pm at St. Paul H.S.  The session is called: "Intro to self-regulation-stress behaviour vs misbehaviour" and will be led by Dr. Stuart Shanker.  More info on the board or school website.

Finally all are invited to our next Parent Council meeting to be held on Tues Oct 25 from 7:00 to 8:30 in the school library.

Have a great weekend!
