Dear parent/guardian,

We are heading into the last week of September (already) which is a big week for Pius as we have a number of activities in support of cancer research through the Terry Fox Foundation.

You are invited to stop in tomorrow (Sat Sept 24) at our car wash.  We will be cleaning cars from 10:00 until 2:00 at the Frisbee Tire on Clyde near Baseline.

Hopefully your son/daughter is doing some of their own fundraising by making a donation or collecting pledges.  We will be doing a 5 km walk in honour of Terry this coming Friday Sept 30.  All students are encouraged to participate.  Our goal is $20,000 which is about $20 per student and staff at our school.  I know we can reach this goal.  After the walk there is a bbq and many fun activities including our own version of the Olympics.  The day ends with a soccer game between this year's senior boys team and an alumni group.  Will the alumni group come out on top again this year?

On Thurs Sept 29 Student Council will hold our annual Homecoming Dance from 7:00 to 9:30 pm in the old gym.  All profits will go to our Terry Fox campaign.  There is also a buy-out staff vs student game during Per 4 on that day.  For $3 students can get out of class to watch their teachers compete against student teams in a variety of sports.  All proceeds to Terry.

There are other things going on at school next week!  On Tues Sept 27 interested Grade 12 students are invited to a presentation by Carleton University.  During Per 2 today students had a chance to hear from an Algonquin College rep.  We have a number of visits from a variety of universities and colleges scheduled during the fall to help students continue the process of thinking about their educational life after high school.  Put on your calendar Wed Oct 26 when Pius is the host site for an Ontario wide University information night.  More details about that later.

Parents of students in Grade 10 will begin hearing about an opportunity to do the Literacy Test on-line on Oct 20.  Passing the literacy test is a requirement to graduate in Ontario.  This is the first time it will be run on-line.  Stand by for more details.

Thanks to the parents who showed up for our first School Council meeting held last Tuesday.  Rose Mason will serve as this year's chair.  Thanks to Rose for stepping up to do that and thanks to Sonia Luberti who led our group the past two years.  Our next meeting is scheduled for Tues Oct 25.  All are welcome to join us to learn about what is going on at your daughter/son's school.

Finally, you can help us keep track of our students.  Please remind your son/daughter to come to the office to sign out before leaving school.  That way we know that they are leaving the school.  Please give us a call or send a note with them if they need to leave school during the day.  Thanks for your help with this!

Have a good weekend!
