On Wed May 20 we ran a lockdown drill at the school.  We are mandated to run two drills a year and this was our second.   We work with the Ottawa Police Service to plan these drills.  This lockdown was called while students were moving between their first and second period classes.   The aim of a drill at this time is for all students and staff to get out of sight in a secure and supervised spot as quickly as possible.  Our school community handled this situation well.  Most were out of sight in a locked, supervised room within a minute of the drill being called.  Students who don't get into a locked room are asked to find the best, out of sight spot they can find.  A small number of students had to do this, generally hiding out in a washroom.   Homeroom teachers will do a follow-up with students tomorrow to review lockdown procedures and the decision making that needs to be made when a lockdown is called and students are not already in a classroom.  Please contact the school if you have any questions.
