Secure School Situation Today

St. Pius was placed into secure schools mode this afternoon. A neighbor called police after seeing two people wearing hoods run towards the school carrying several items. The items turned out to be air horns and a box of crickets, which were released into the school by the students as part of a graduation prank. Ottawa Police were called to the scene and completed a full investigation. We understand how the students could have been mistakenly identified as potential threats.

Our school was particularly vigilant in addressing the suspicious nature of this incident due to an email our school received yesterday.  Late last night, all intermediate and secondary Ottawa Catholic schools received an email bomb threat to their general email inbox. A similar email was sent to one of our secondary schools last week, which proved to be a false threat. In consultation with the Ottawa Police, the Principal initiated our Safe Schools Protocol, which includes conducting a search before continuing regular school operations.

Please know that your child's safety continues to be our primary concern.
Contact the school if you have any questions or concerns.
