Catholic Education Week May 3-7

We are very pleased to inform you that next week we will be celebrating Catholic Education Week in a virtual way. Please carefully read the letter below that has detailed information on the events of next week. I encourage you to be part of the celebration by connecting with us on Twitter and share the good news with others. This letter explains the #ocsbHope Twitter challenge and encourages students and families to share examples of how hope is being nurtured in their school community. Let’s do our best to celebrate our own St. Pius school community!

If you are looking to volunteer virtually or in light touch opportunities, here are some options:

Become a virtual reading star by joining the PRC Read To Me campaign! Virtual Volunteer Readers are needed by the Parent Resource of Ottawa.

Meal Servers - City of Ottawa - Human Needs Command Centre- volunteers assist with setup, distribution and takedown of lunch service with flexible shift

Friendly Visitor - FRIENDLY CALLS - Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre A friendly call from a volunteer would brighten up a seniors’ day and break the isolation most of these seniors are experiencing.

If you are looking for in-person or long term volunteer opportunities, have a look at the following:

Canadians Sharing Locally and Globally is looking for volunteers who have experience with writing, social outreach and advocacy. They’d like to write and develop several short documentaries that describe their organization.

Circles of Support and Accountability - Ottawa is looking for volunteers to meet as a group and individually with a 'core member' to assist with the reintegration process. They are looking for mature, enthusiastic individuals of all ages (min. 21 years old), from all backgrounds and lifestyles and can commit to being involved for at least one year.

The Matching Program at the Catholic Centre for Immigrants (CCI) is looking for volunteers to work virtually with newcomers through online platforms and by phone. Through its volunteers, the Matching Program reaches out to refugees and immigrants who are in need of support to thrive in their new life in Ottawa.

There are constantly new postings on the website. Please search these opportunities to find the one that suits your needs and comfort level.

Thank you and stay healthy and safe!
